For over 30 years, Jus- A-Start (JAS) has been creating pathways to opportunity by helping Cambridge families secure affordable, high quality housing that meets their needs. Through all of our activities, we strive to help our clients achieve financial security and improved quality of life, while building thriving and resilient communities that make Cambridge a better city for all residents.
As mediators, JAS professionals helps resolve disputes between tenants, landlords, homeowners, and others by creating a safe, neutral forum in which meaningful dialogue can occur. Through these efforts, JAS has helped thousands of parties reach compromise and address conflicts before they spiral out of control. In addition, the Housing Services group helps at-risk residents avoid homelessness by administering emergency financial assistance and coordinating available social support services.
Just-A-Start House Teen Living Program (TLP) is a structured residential services and training program for pregnant or parenting teen mothers, ages thirteen to twenty, and their children. In addition to providing a safe and supportive living environment, the program offers case management and advocacy services aimed at increasing parenting and life skills, helping teen parents to develop education and career goals and move toward living as self-sufficient members of the community.
In addition to the programs above, JAS offers an array of services to meet the ongoing needs of low and moderate income homeowners in Cambridge. These services include: technical assistance with property maintenance and repair; advisory services for condominium association finances, management, and compliance; education and training courses; and leadership development for condominium associations.
