Just-A-Start names Carmen Chan Director of Philanthropy

We’re pleased to welcome Carmen Chan as Just-A-Start’s Director of Philanthropy. In her new role, Carmen will oversee Just-A-Start’s fundraising, marketing, and communications activities, developing and expanding strategic partnerships to meet the organization’s goals and increase our impact in Cambridge and surrounding communities.

“Carmen has had an impressive career as a senior fundraising professional, and we are thrilled to bring her leadership to Just-A-Start,” said Executive Director Carl Nagy-Koechlin. “Her dedication to strengthening communities through philanthropy will help us create powerful economic opportunity for thousands of Just-A-Start’s residents, students, and community members.”

Carmen brings more than 25 years of experience and success in development and nonprofit management to Just-A-Start. Previously, she held nonprofit management roles at Rosie’s Place, Boston Chinatown Neighborhood Center, Dorchester Bay Economic Development Corporation, and the Asian Task Force Against Domestic Violence. In her 16-year tenure at the Boston Chinatown Neighborhood Center, she led two successful capital campaigns totaling $6 million and helped to double the organization’s budget, eventually expanding its programming to four locations in Boston and Quincy.

“It’s an honor to join an organization that has committed over 50 years to changing people’s lives in this community. Just-A-Start’s revised mission – to promote equity by creating access to stable housing and building pathways to economic opportunity – affirms its commitment to anti-racism and social justice,” said Carmen. “I am energized to support new and growing initiatives to help low-income families to flourish.”
