The Community Investment Tax Credit (CITC) is a Massachusetts state program, administered by the Executive Office of Housing and Livable Communities (EOHLC), that offers a 50% state tax credit for donations to certified Community Development Corporations like Just A Start.

When you donate $1,000 or more to Just A Start, you’re eligible to receive a Massachusetts state tax credit equivalent to 50% of your contribution.

CITC is available to individuals and institutions. Registration is quick and easy via an online portal. 

  • Minimum of $1,000 – cash, check or credit card
  • CITC contributions must be received by Just A Start  by 12/31/2025
  • Made in one gift or installments throughout the year
  • IRA Qualified Charitable Distributions do qualify if sent directly to Just A Start 
  • CITC is available to individuals, businesses, and non-profit organizations who make a qualified donation. (Out-of-state donors may file a non-resident return in MA to receive the tax credit).
  • Not eligible: Gifts of stock or in-kind goods or services DO NOT qualify

PLEASE NOTE: While many DAF sponsors do not participate in CITC, local community foundations like Cambridge Community Foundation and the Boston Foundation do.

Use the portal below to recommend a grant to Just A Start. Please notify [email protected] when the transfer is made to ensure proper credit of your grant.

If you are 70 ½ or older, you may make a gift through your IRA account, while reducing your income tax. You must notify your IRA administrator to directly send the gift to Just A Start. Before you initiate this process, please notify [email protected].

Donate appreciated stocks and avoid capital gains tax, while receiving a charitable deduction. Contact [email protected] to notify us of the incoming transfer.

You can include Just A Start in your will, trust, or as a beneficiary of your retirement plan, DAF, life insurance policy, or other investment accounts.

Charitable Gift Annuity (CGA) provides a fixed annual income for one or two people for life, rates are based on age(s) of the donor(s)/annuitants, and you are eligible for a partial income tax charitable deduction in the year the gift is made.

Just A Start partners with the National Gift Annuity Foundation (NGFT) to offer charitable gift annuity. Minimum gift is $20,000 at a minimum age of 55. Contact [email protected] to learn more.
