Financial Capability Program
The Financial Capability Program is currently being developed to complement our existing JAS programs. The goal of the program is to empower low to moderate income clients to maximize their financial resources and build wealth to increase their economic stability and mobility. The focus of our program will be on helping clients take achievable steps to meet their own goals.
We partner with the IRS to offer Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) tax prep services free-of-charge for families earning less than $54,000 per year. Through this program, we ensure that filers receive all available tax credits and avoid high-cost tax preparation services. For 2018, our tax services will begin in late January and run through mid-April.
In addition, JAS offers regular workshops and one-on-one coaching to help residents and students achieve their financial goals. We partner with local nonprofits with expertise in a range of issues to offer regular monthly workshops on issues such as student loans, credit repair and healthcare enrollment. JAS is currently partnering with the Midas Collaborative (MidasCollab.org) to pilot a matched savings program for JAS YouthBuild students
