Just-A-Start Begins Preservation Project on 112 Units of Affordable Housing In Cambridge

CAMBRIDGE – December 2017 – Just-A-Start has begun work on its Consolidated Project, a $48 million, 112-unit affordable housing rental preservation project. The project consists of 20 buildings spread across 10 separate sites located throughout Cambridge. This project marks the first comprehensive renovation of these 19 buildings in the time Just-A-Start and its affiliates have owned them. Priority scope items include envelope systems, HVAC systems, sprinkler systems, new kitchens and baths in the majority of units, and site improvements. This project also includes a newly constructed building at 50 York Street to replace a building that was destroyed by a fire in late 2016. The new building will be on the footprint of the former building and contain 16 units, including 4 handicap accessible units, shared laundry facilities, and a multipurpose community room. The JAS Consolidated Project is utilizing funds from MassHousing, the Cambridge Redevelopment Authority, and tax-exempt bond financing from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and Low Income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC) Equity.
