Developing affordable housing in Cambridge and surrounding communities

Just A Start develops affordable homes that allow families to live, grow, and thrive with rents that are within their means.

As a community development corporation and nonprofit developer of affordable housing, we’re committed to creating high-quality, appealing, and sustainable properties that benefit our residents and our broader community.

Currently, we have 275 homes in our pipeline to be developed within the next three years. We pursue these goals with a variety of public and private partners, including funders, investors, and City and state agencies.

Are you interested in exploring an affordable housing development partnership with Just A Start? Please contact Noah Sawyer, Director of Real Estate, at 617-918-7516 or [email protected].

In Development

Broadway Park

We’re transforming the surface parking lot at the corner of Cambridge’s Broadway and Windsor St into an affordable condominium building. Broadway Park will create opportunities for 15 families with moderate incomes to become homeowners in the Port/Area 4 neighborhood.

52 New Street

We’re proposing to transform the lot at 52 New Street into modern and environmentally-friendly family housing. The proposed building will create over 100 affordable apartments for residents, providing much-needed affordable housing opportunities in a tight and increasingly expensive rental market.

Rindge Commons

Rindge Commons is a mixed-use development that will bring together a state-of-the-art education and job training center, affordable housing, and services available to the entire Alewife neighborhood. It will be located in two new buildings adjacent to our Rindge Tower Apartments.

Rindge Commons received zoning approval in August 2020, and is tentatively scheduled to break ground for its first phase in Spring 2022.
